Transformadores Secos Encapsulados

DRY ENCAPSULATED TRANSFORMERS

Encapsulated dry transformers were born as an innovative alternative to conventional oil transformers, offering greater safety and reducing maintenance requirements. By having their high voltage windings completely encapsulated, these transformers are comprehensively protected against moisture, dust and industrial debris common in highly contaminated environments. This results in easier installation, greater flexibility and a maintenance-free life cycle.

With a power up to 30 MVA, voltage up to 52 kV, and a basic insulation level (BIL) of 250 kV, these transformers are certified in accordance with the IEC60076-11 standard for:

  • E3 (environmental class), indicating that they are suitable for areas with high pollution and humidity greater than 95%.
  • C2 (climatic class), confirming that they are suitable for operating, transporting and storing in ambient temperatures of up to -25 °C.
  • F1 (fire behavior class), guaranteeing its suitability for areas with high fire risk, being self-extinguishing.

These transformers are commonly used in electrical distribution networks, as well as in renewable energy networks, covering applications in wind farms, hydroelectric plants, and solar and geothermal power plants.

Trafo Elettro’s encapsulated dry transformer offers a safe and easy solution for our customers, minimizing the risk of fire and reducing the need for maintenance. They comply with the IEC 60076-11 standard in the categories:

E3 (environmental class): Suitable for highly contaminated areas with humidity greater than 95%.

C2 (climatic class): Suitable for operating, transporting and storing in ambient temperatures down to -25 °C.

F1 (fire performance class): Suitable for areas with high fire risk and self-extinguishing.

By encapsulating the high voltage windings, transformers are fully protected against moisture, dust and industrial debris common in highly contaminated environments. This results in easier installation, greater flexibility and a maintenance-free life cycle.

These transformers are commonly used in power distribution networks. Their self-extinguishing characteristic (class F1) makes them ideal for installations in public buildings such as hospitals, hotels and airports, where preventing the risk of fire is crucial. They can also be designed for installations in railway networks or substations.

Its ability to withstand high humidity and contaminated atmospheres (class E3) allows installation in challenging environments such as mines, paper mills, offshore and onshore platforms, oil and gas plants, desalination plants and cement factories. Furthermore, its suitability for extreme temperatures (class C2) allows installation in low temperature areas. Custom designed, they are also suitable for installations in seismic areas or with high vibration conditions, such as mobile machines.

These transformers also find application in renewable energy networks, such as wind, hydro, solar and geothermal farms, as well as in conversions, excitation, testing and grounding.

Its main advantages include:

  • LONG LIFE: Experience in the casting process allows for a low level of partial discharge.
  • COMPACT DESIGN: Optimized dimensions and terminal layout for critical space situations.
  • HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL RESISTANCE: Specific treatment for magnetic core and frames to resist the most extreme environmental conditions.
  • INTENSIVE USE: Special design structure for seismic zones or applications with intense vibrations.
  • ECOLOGICAL: Research and development of the most efficient materials combined with advanced design for high energy efficiency. Safe to use and easy to dispose of.

Encapsulated dry transformers offer versatility by being able to incorporate various accessories, including protection devices, special terminal connections and additional devices for specific applications.
