ERT® AND TRT® ANTI-FIRE RETENTION TANKS
SANERGRID’s innovative ERT® technology effectively addresses fire risks associated with hydrocarbon pools in oil-fired electrical transformers.
Designed and manufactured in France, these tanks have been tested and perfected for more than two decades, complying with the French NFC 13 200 regulation. ERT® is a registered trademark with the French INPI and has been successfully tested at the renowned French center of prevention and protection CNPP in 2009 and again in 2011.
Adapted to different job site configurations, ERT® technology is available in a wide range of standard or customized products to meet all types of specific needs in terms of retention, space, transformer support, crane, rolling, for both interior and exteriors.
SANERGRID’s innovative ERT® technology effectively addresses fire risks associated with hydrocarbon pools in oil-fired electrical transformers. All of our buckets equipped with ERT® technology feature special single-slope fire lids, known as EXTICOV®-CCF™, placed on top of the bucket.
These covers are meticulously designed to facilitate the rapid entry of burning hydrocarbons into the tank, under the covers. Once the hot hydrocarbons are “trapped” in the tank, the fire is extinguished almost immediately due to the lack of oxygen renewal, the essential component for combustion.
Thanks to the speed of the suffocation process, the temperature increase inside the tank is minimal, and thermal runaway, which could accelerate the spread of the fire, becomes practically impossible. In this way, our firewall system acts passively and simultaneously on two of the three components of the fire triangle, in a simple and effective way.

ERT®-F-W Fireproof cube with fixed beams in width
The ERT®F-W line offers a variety of 12 standardized references of fireproof, self-supporting, fixed beam and one-piece widthwise gutters. Designed to meet the regulatory, technical and environmental requirements associated with oil-filled electrical transformers from 160 kVA to 20 MVA, the SANERGRID® ERT-FW range provides reliable and efficient solutions.
ERT®-W Fireproof bucket with width-adjustable beams
The ERT® W series consists of standardized, one-piece, self-supporting, fire-retardant gutters with adjustable width beams. Designed to comply with the regulations and technical requirements for oil-filled electrical transformers from 160 kVA to 20 MVA, the SANERGRID® ERT®-W range offers flexibility and safety, adapting to various configurations and needs.
ERT®MODULO Modular anti-fire bucket
The ERT® MODULO range is made up of several custom-made fire retention cubes that are assembled together in modules. The SANERGRID® ERT® MODULO allow you to comply with all the regulatory and technical aspects of oil retention, fire and contamination of large high voltage power transformers, without exposing yourself to increased transportation costs.
The ERT®MODULO range presents several custom-made fire retention buckets, assembled in modules. These buckets allow compliance with all regulatory and technical aspects related to oil retention, fire protection and pollution prevention in large, high-voltage power transformers, without incurring additional transportation costs.
ERT®R Fireproof bucket with roll-up adaptation
The ERT®R range includes several standardized references of fire-resistant, self-supporting monobloc tanks with width-adjustable beams, with the particularity of having an adaptation that facilitates the movement of the transformer on the tank. SANERGRID® ERT®-R cubes are the ideal choice to meet the regulatory, technical and environmental requirements associated with dielectric oil electrical transformers.

Our containers comply with EU Regulation No. 548/2014, also known as ECODESIGN, in application of Directive 2009/125/EC. This directive establishes ecological design requirements for the marketing or commissioning of transformers with a minimum power of 1 kVA, used both in 50 Hz electricity transmission and distribution networks and in industrial applications. They are classified as ECODESIGN Levels 1 (2015) and ECODESIGN Levels 2 (2021).
SANERGRID ERT containment buckets comply with French, European and international regulations and recommendations for the containment of dielectric fluids, the mitigation of fire risks, the management of pollutants and rainwater in high voltage substations, as well as the protection of people and properties:
- French standards NF C13-100 and NF C13-200, for the prevention of electrical risks, overcurrents, grounding problems, fire risks, short circuits, lightning, as well as soil and environmental pollution.
- The NF EN 61936-1 standard, relating to the design and assembly of electrical installations, requires a watertight retention of 100% of the volume of hydrocarbons used. In addition, it provides indications for the sizing of volumes and retention surfaces, distances, fire safety systems and the management of stormwater associated with open-air hydrocarbon storage.
- CIGRE 23-07 and IEEE 980 recommendations regarding the use of fireproof covers for transformer pits and tanks, as well as guidance on the sizing of tanks and retention pits, both interior and exterior.
- European EUROCODE 3 standards for the calculation of steel structures, in the design and manufacturing phases of tanks.
The production centers hold ISO 9001 certifications for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management. Located in Europe, they support efficient supply chains, contributing to the minimization of carbon emissions. In addition, more than 50% of the steel used in the manufacture of the tanks comes from European sources and is made up of more than 50% recycled steel. This measure not only limits the overexploitation of resources, but also significantly reduces carbon emissions associated with manufacturing activities.
For storm water drainage and prevention of hydrocarbon contamination in outdoor use, our SPI hydrocarbon filtration system keeps the tank largely free of water and ready to receive hydrocarbons. In accordance with the French Water Law (decree 77-254), the water discharged from the tanks does not exceed 5 ppm of hydrocarbons, complying with the EN 858-1 standard on “light liquid separation installations”.
